Other Benefits

HEART Full Helper Ambassador Program empowers African Americans who lost someone to a heart attack to become a HEART "Full of Joy" and promote heart health within their communities. Here's how:

There’s a Desperate Need:

  • High Cardiovascular Disease Rates: African Americans disproportionately experience heart disease, with higher rates of death compared to other racial groups. This disparity stems from complex factors like social determinants of health, lack of access to quality healthcare, and cultural mistrust in medical systems.

  • Grief and Community Support: Losing a loved one to a heart attack is a devastating experience. Grief can be complex and isolating, especially when compounded by societal pressures and the unique stressors of the Black community.

  • Knowledge and Empowerment: Many individuals lack awareness about heart disease risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of regular health screenings.

What’s the Value Add:

  • Combating Disparities: By leveraging our lived experiences and community trust, HEART Full Helper Ambassadors are able to break down barriers and encourage heart-healthy behaviors among other African Americans. This peer-to-peer approach can be more effective than traditional health messaging.

  • Meaningful Grief Transformation: Participating as a HEART Full Helper Ambassador offers grieving individuals a chance to channel their grief into positive action, honoring their loved one's memory while saving lives.

  • Community Education and Advocacy: HEART Full Helper Ambassadors can become trusted sources of information, sharing knowledge about heart disease prevention, dispelling myths, and connecting their peers with healthcare resources.

  • Building Resilience and Connection: Creating a network of survivors and advocates fosters shared experiences, support, and collective action, strengthening the Black community's overall health and well-being.

  • Recognition and Empowerment: By publicly acknowledging and celebrating HEART Full Helper Ambassadors' contributions fosters a sense of purpose, strengthens their commitment, and inspires others to join the cause.
